House Flipper 2 multiplayer supports up to four players, including the host, in both Story and Sandbox modes. Its free co-op feature supports crossplay between PC and consoles. One player hosts the session, friends join that lobby, and the shared world's progress belongs to the host's profile.

Choose Online when friends are connecting from different homes. The developer's Steam guide also documents LAN for computers on the same local network. Before troubleshooting an invitation, compare game versions and crossplay settings: the official instructions require both to match across the group.

The setup labels below come from the developer-pinned guide, last edited in January 2025. Current product pages confirm the modes and player limit, and the full co-op release followed in May 2025. The latest game interface has not been tested firsthand for this article, so follow the equivalent lobby options if their placement has changed.

01

Choose Story or Sandbox for the session

Story co-op lets your group work on the host's campaign. It suits players who want a defined renovation project and a shared list of things to finish. If someone is learning the game, the beginner guide explains the broader distinction between jobs, renovating properties and building freely.

Sandbox gives the group a place to design and build together. Choose it when the evening's goal is a custom house, an architectural experiment or a renovation concept with fewer decisions supplied by a story job. Our Sandbox guide covers that side of the game.

The official co-op release also added jobs and houses that can be completed alone. That matters when arranging a session: a property described as co-op content does not necessarily require a full group. Pick a project everyone wants to work on, then decide how to divide it.

02

Pick the host before committing to a project

The host supplies the world you are working in. Treat that person as the owner of the group's continuing project, particularly if you expect to return to the same house over several evenings. Choosing whoever can reliably attend makes resuming the work easier.

The developer guide says overall progress is saved on the host's profile. Finishing work in a friend's lobby should therefore be planned around continuing that friend's save. Do not assume that your own campaign becomes an identical copy of their property when you leave.

For a long renovation, agree on the host and property in your group conversation before launching. At the end, note which room or task should come next. Those are coordination suggestions rather than extra game requirements, but they prevent the next session from beginning with several players trying to remember different plans.

03

Create an online lobby and invite friends

The developer's documented flow is:

  1. Open Co-op from the main menu and choose Host.
  2. Select Online, review the region and crossplay option, then choose Create Lobby.
  3. Invite Steam friends from the lobby or share its lobby code.
  4. Have other players choose Join and enter that code.
  5. Select the Story save or Sandbox project and start once the group is present.

The official guide describes private lobbies. Arrange an invitation or obtain the code from the host; this workflow does not rely on finding your friend's house in a public server list. Only the host can invite additional players, so have that person handle the group's arrivals.

Keep the code easy to find in your existing group chat. If someone joins later, ask the host for the current invitation details instead of passing around an old screenshot of a previous session. Sharing a code is a joining method, not a way to transfer ownership of the save.

04

Match crossplay settings and game versions

Current store descriptions confirm cross-platform play, so a supported PC-and-console group can renovate together. The connection setup still needs to be consistent. According to the developer guide, online participants must use the same crossplay setting even when everyone is playing on the same platform.

Before creating the lobby, compare that switch across the group. If you intend to mix platforms, enable crossplay for everyone. For an existing lobby that friends cannot enter, checking this setting is more useful than repeatedly sending the same invitation without changing anything.

Also compare installed game versions. Let updates finish before trying again; the developer specifically says different versions will not connect. If one platform has not received or installed the matching build, recreating the lobby does not resolve that difference.

05

Use LAN for the same local network

LAN is the local-network option documented for PCs. The host chooses it instead of Online, and joining can use the host's LAN IP address. It is appropriate when the computers are connected to the same local network.

Friends playing from another home should use Online. Being geographically close does not make two separate household networks one LAN; the developer guide makes that distinction explicitly. For a mixed-platform session, use the confirmed online crossplay route rather than assuming every device has the same LAN interface.

Start by deciding which situation actually applies to your group. That avoids mixing a local IP address with an online lobby-code workflow and makes any later troubleshooting easier to describe.

06

If a friend cannot join or gets disconnected

Check the essentials in a consistent order: matching versions, matching crossplay settings, the correct connection mode and a current invitation from the host. Confirm that the group still fits within the player limit. Change one thing at a time so you can identify which check resolved the problem.

For a lost connection, the developer guide recommends restarting the game. Have the host confirm that the expected property is available, then reconnect using the appropriate lobby details. A disconnect by itself does not establish that the save has been deleted.

If the property or profile is genuinely missing, move to the save-file guide. Official recovery instructions differ between Windows backups and console cloud saves. For a support report, record the platforms involved, game versions, connection mode and whether the problem occurred while joining or after play had started.

07

Plan a useful first co-op session

Begin with one clearly defined project. Agree on a room layout before several people change adjacent spaces, and assign areas or tasks that fit each person's interests. One player might prefer decorating while another wants to handle construction; discuss the plan before making large shared changes.

For a community property, first review the mods guide, since downloading custom content is a separate workflow from joining a friend. For platform requirements and online-service conditions, check platforms: PlayStation lists PS Plus for online play, while Xbox lists an eligible console multiplayer subscription.

This guide covers the documented online and LAN setup. It does not establish split-screen support, shared achievement credit or every DLC ownership combination. If one of those is essential to your plans, verify that specific requirement before choosing the session's content; the confirmed starting point is a host-led Story or Sandbox lobby.
